IELTS Writing Stuck at Band 5.5? The Problem Is Usually Not Vocabulary
Many students try to solve IELTS Writing by memorising difficult words. That rarely fixes a Band 5.5 problem.
The real issue is usually sentence control, weak paragraph logic, unclear answers to the question, and repeated Arabic-to-English transfer errors.
If your exam is before September admission deadlines, you should not start with more PDFs. Start with a diagnostic: find the exact skill that is leaking marks, then practise that skill daily.
What to fix first
- Check whether every sentence has a clear subject and verb.
- Stop writing long sentences you cannot control.
- Use linking words only when the logic is real.
- Rewrite the same answer after feedback instead of starting a new essay every time.
A Band 6.5 or 7+ answer does not need theatrical vocabulary. It needs a clear position, controlled grammar, paragraph development, and accurate linking.
